It was a BEAUTIFUL DAY to see old friends and meet new ones.

Carmen Calvillo, a senior pursuing a Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) degree, was selected to be honored at the Cowles House before the Michigan State University football game against Rutgers on November 12. She was nominated by Dr. Kathy Hoag who is a professor in the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program. Calvillo shared her journey and experience at Michigan State University with a group of MSU staff and faculty, along with interim MSU president Teresa K. Woodruff.

For the past two years, Dolorito has been helping Dr. Peter Marinkovich, a dermatologist with Stanford University School of Medicine, develop a topical gel to combat the skin disease known as Epidermolysis bullosa.  Marinkovich began his work on the gel in 2015.

Mikayla Sague, a senior pursuing a Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) degree, was selected to be honored at the Cowles House before the Michigan State University football game against Minnesota on Sept 24. She was nominated by Dr. Kathy Hoag who is professor in the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program.

The clinical laboratory has been in the spotlight for the past two years. I don’t think there has ever been another time that the laboratory and laboratory testing has had so much publicity or center stage marketing. Did you ever think you would see the federal government send at-home test kits to anyone for free? I surely wouldn’t have predicted it. But with the pandemic slowly loosening its hold on society, we need to come up with ideas on how to keep this exposure and presence of our labs alive

Different approaches to SARS-CoV-2 testing using mass spectrometry:Dr. Leann M. Mikesh, Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Michigan State University Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program, recently contributed an article to the professional publication, Medical Laboratory Observer. In the article, Dr. Mikesh highlights the different methods of testing for SARS-CoV-2 using mass spectrometry.
