Dr. Martin is currently an Associate Technical Director of Microbiology with Labcorp. Prior to that, she completed her training as a Medical Microbiology Fellow at the University of Utah School of Medicine and ARUP Laboratories. She was previously an Assistant Professor of Clinical and Diagnostic Sciences at Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. Dr. Martin received her PhD in Molecular and Cellular Pathology from the University of Michigan where her dissertation focused on identifying bacterial and host risk factors for clinical infection with Klebsiella pneumoniae. She also holds a Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science from Michigan State University, and worked as a medical laboratory scientist at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, MI. She is certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Medical Microbiology, and also maintains certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist through the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification. Dr. Martin currently serves on the Editorial Board for the journal Microbiology Spectrum. In the past she has served on the Board of Directors for the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science-Michigan (ASCLS-MI) and as a member of the ASCLS-MI annual meeting planning committee. She is a current member of ASCLS and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), as well as the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) and the Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA). Dr. Martin has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, and is an invited author for the upcoming edition of Clinical Microbiology Procedures Handbook. She has also been an invited speaker at national and regional conferences. Her expertise is in diagnostic microbiology and laboratory verification / validation of microbiology test systems. She is passionate about education, medical microbiology, and spreading the word about careers in the clinical laboratory!
