Scholarships and Financial Aid

BLD Program Scholarship application window for Fall 2026 is now closed. Thank you to everyone who applied. Award decisions are announced by August of each year and funds are dispersed prior to the start of the Fall semester. If you have any questions or financial need outside of the normal application deadlines, talk with your BLD Advisor.

The following scholarships are designated by their donors for students pursuing degrees in the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program.

Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics (BLD) Program Scholarships

Pamela Agren Memorial Scholarship March 13th Undergraduates with junior standing or higher and graduate students are eligible. Applicants are selected on the basis of previous academic achievement, professional goals, and/or financial need.
Eleanor L. Barrett Scholarship in Medical Technology March 13th Undergraduates are eligible, freshman are encouraged to apply. Applicants are selected on the basis of their academic records. Eleanor L. Barrett Medical Technology Discretionary Endowed Fund March 13th
Undergraduates and Graduates are eligible. Applicants are selected through the judgment of the selection committee.
Pamela Costabile Endowed Scholarship in Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics March 13th
Undergraduates of junior standing or higher by the award year. Applicants are selected on the basis of previous academic achievement, professional goals, and/or financial need.
Lori Ann Neer-Swantko Endowed Scholarship March 13th
Undergraduates of junior standing or higher by the award year. Applicants selected shall be in good academic standing.
Herman-Billman Endowed Scholarship in Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics March 13th
Students majoring in Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics. This scholarship may be renewable as long as the student maintains a minimum GPA of 2.8.
American Proficiency Institute Endowed Scholarship Fund in Medical Technology March 13th Eligible recipient(s) will be majoring in the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program and will be at least junior standing at the time of the award.
Florence Nothstine Endowed Scholarship for Medical Technology March 13th Resident in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, or Wisconsin; Undergraduates with four semesters or fewer remaining, or a graduate student; Applicant must be working at least part-time while attending school.
Laura Alberts-Boromisa and Jeffrey M. Boromisa Spartan Cornerstone Scholarship Challenge March 13th Freshman or sophomore undergrads eligible for federal need-based aid; preference: Hackett Catholic Central HS, then Kalamazoo County, then southwest Michigan; interested in majoring in BLD program.

Graduate students enrolled in MSU programs researching pathogenic fungi or fungal-like organisms (not limited to BLD). Contact a BLD advisor for more information.
 
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Varies Veterans or eligible dependents enrolled in MA/MS/BS Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Lab Science, related fields (e.g., chemistry, microbiology); clinical practicum in MLS leading to ASCP certification.
