Application Process

Application Process

To apply to the MLS program, please complete the application. Once you complete the form, please bring it to the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program, North Kedzie Hall, 354 Farm Lane, Room N322, East Lansing, MI  48824-5672. The MLS majors are limited-enrollment programs because they incorporate a clinical laboratory practicum into the degree requirement. The number of available positions is limited by the positions available at the affiliated sites. Admission is very competitive.  Applicants must meet the following criteria for consideration:

  1. Have an overall grade-point-average of 2.50 or better (This includes courses taken at institutions other than MSU.)
  2. Have a grade-point average of 2.50 or better in the following courses: BLD 204, BLD 213L, BLD 313, and BLD 314L.
  3. Have completed prerequisite courses that will allow the student to progress to clinical placement with the cohort admitted during the same year.

If you have questions about whether you meet this requirement, make an appointment to see the MLS Program Director for a review of your readiness to apply. Students should complete the MLS application and email them to Nicole Lipnichan (lipnicha@msu.edu) by January 15th. The application process is competitive; therefore, applicants could be placed on an alternate list until the end of fall semester when applications are finalized.

If you are uncertain as to whether a major in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Laboratory Science is best for you, speak to your academic advisor. You can also meet with the MLS Program Director for further discussion.

Please be sure to read the "Essential Requirements" section of the application document (at the end of the document).  If you have any concerns about your ability to meet the Essential Requirements, contact the MLS Program Director.
