Suzanne Butch, MA, MLS(ASCP)CM, SBBCM, CLMCM
Suzanne Butch, MA, MLS(ASCP)CM, SBBCM, CLMCM is currently the Manager of Clinical Pathology Quality Assurance in the Department of Pathology at the University of Michigan Hospitals and Health Centers. Until December of 2014, she was the Administrative Manager of the Blood Bank & Transfusion Service at the University of Michigan Hospitals & Health Centers in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She holds a bachelors degree and Certificate in Medical Technology from the University of Michigan, and a Masters in Management and Supervision from Central Michigan University. She is certified as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, a Specialist in Blood Banking Technology, and as a Diplomate in Laboratory Management from the ASCP, and as a Certified Quality Auditor from the American Society for Quality.
She has been active in state, national, and international professional societies and was named the ASCLS "Member of the Year" for 2012, as well as received the ASCLS-Michigan Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. Her professional interests include the use of barcoding and streamlining laboratory operations. To this end she has worked since 1990 on various committees and organizations to promote the electronic crossmatch and barcoding in transfusion medicine. She has been chair of ICCBBA's America's Technical Advisory Group (ATAG), a member of the ICCBBA Board of Directors, and currently serves on the Editorial Board for ICCBBA. She is a member and advisor to the AABB Coding and Reimbursement Committee, as well as a member and advisor to the CLSI Committee on Automation and as an observer to the US Technical Advisory Group for ISO/TC 212 and ISO/TC 76. She served as member and chair of the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) Management Examination Committee for Laboratory Personnel and currently serves as a Committee Member for the Diplomate of Laboratory Medicine (DLM) Examination Committee for the ASCP. She published both scientific and management papers and has edited books on irradiation and information technology in transfusion medicine, written a monograph on the electronic crossmatch, and co-authored electronic publications on auditing in the transfusion service, cellular therapy laboratory, and donor center. In her spare time she enjoys domestic and international travel and photography.
